Beware of filing a rebuttal on complaint sites
While it may seem tempting to file a response to a complaint, PositiveBoost recommends steering clear of this tactic. When a rebuttal is posted on a complaint site it only adds to the link’s search engine “juice”. In the eyes of Google and other search engines, the more user generated content on a site the more relevant it seems to the topic. Pages that are frequently updated with fresh user generated content (like Ripoff Report) rank higher in search engine results.
The only circumstance in which filing a rebuttal is recommended is when there is no intent to undertake a reputation management like plan of attack.
Create a company or individual blog using wordpress. If you are trying to create some strong links on Google and other search engines like Bing and Yahoo, try installing a blog using wordpress on your-name.com or your-companyname.com. Blogs are very easy to install and even easier to manage. If you can type an email, then you can blog!
Go to wordpress.org and download the wordpress install files and install them on your site. Wordpress has very easy to read and understand instructions. You will need a domain name, web hosting company or account, and the wordpress files (Free).
I have complaints! What do I do?
First, do not panic! The web is not a static place and everything is undoable in one way or another. Second, do not start a war with whoever filed the complaint against you (do not retaliate), this will only add fuel to the fire. Do NOT file/post a rebuttal or a comment on a complaint or negative press about you; this will only make the “bad” page about you rank higher or stronger on search engines.
If you are listed on websites like RipOffReport.com, ComplaintsBoard.com, or PissedConsumers.com, do not bother threatening them or contacting them to ask for removal of the complaints. They will not and do not have to remove complaints that others post on their websites. Websites that host consumer complaints and comments are not legally responsible for the content that others place on their website. They are protected under a law called the communications decency act (CDA). This law basically states that in internet service provider (like them) is not responsible or liable for the content that a user posts on their website.

Reputation Management – Daily Tips 6-24-2010
PositiveBoost, Reputation Management, SEO, Tips No CommentsOne of the most important aspects of search engine optimization and online reputation management is content. And one of the most important aspects of content is keyword density. Distribution of keywords throughout the title, article body, headers, and other locales, is a direct implication to search engines that the content is relevant to the keyword. Another very important facet of superior reputation management content is not ignoring the fact that not only search engines, but actual people, will be finding and reading it. If the content of a site has scores of the keywords stuffed into it then chances are it will look unnatural to visitors. A rule of thumb for keyword density is to keep them at approximately 3-5 percent of the total content. Using a disproportionate quantity of keywords may result in your page being penalized by search engines. If, for one reason or another, a larger capacity of the keyword(s) is needed, in a substantial sized article for example, then keyword phrase variations should be integrated into the content.
It is very important to own your name and company name as a “dotcom” or domain name. YourName.com, YourName.net and YourName.org will all rank well on search results very easily and give you control over some of the content that Google shows about your name. If you have not already, go register YourName.com. The average cost is only $14.00 per year and this small investment can really pay off.
